Recently I did a post about why I was atheist, which can be found here.

I got carried away. I began talking about how I blame God for my CP and the reason why I wasn't Catholic was the fact that God has never intervened on the part of the little guy/person who's doing badly in life.

I don't mind my CP, it's there, I get on with my life, I don't dislike my life, I'm perfectly happy.

I started off good, but I kind of brought CP into it and it went out of control. Let me try again

I guess that the main reason would be just the fact that I dislike blind faith. Being taught to worship someone just because some people in white clothes tell us to. We're told that this being loves us all and will cradle us in Heaven. The part I dislike is the lack of proof. We are asked to go along with it because we are told. Nothing more. I don't know about you, but I'd like something a wee bit more substantial.

See how many words there were "told" or "asked"? Never anything like "shown" or "proven"

That said, if ever conclusive proof was to appear, I wouldn't have any problem joining Catholicism.

I liken god to (for the want of a better explanation) a placebo. Half of god's power is our own willpower. Having a god is comforting, like I said in the earlier post:

In my opinion, religion provides comfort. When someone dies, you find comfort in thinking that they're somewhere happy (predominantly in Ireland, it's somewhere with clouds and pearly gates) and when you're alone after an argument with someone, you find solace in the fact there is a being that's there 24/7.

That is one of the reasons god is still (for the want of of a better word) "popular". It's kind of strange how someone who can never be seen or heard, someone who is merely spoken about has survived all this time. Coincidence plays a part here. If someone is sick, you pray to god to make them better. Now, if they get better from the medicine, you are left thinking

"Well, was that the medicine that cured him or was it the fact I was praying?"

Usually people don't want to let go of the fact it could have been the prayer, but don't want to disregard the medicine in case some Karma comes into play the next time they're sick.

Thus god stays in people's minds.

There, I'm happier with that.

Bear in mind that this is all my own opinion and doesn't reflect anyone's views (except Tommy Collison's).

Here follows my thoughts on Religion. I tried not to bash other religions, but I wholeheartedly disagree with it all and if you get seriously pissed off at people disagreeing with your beliefs, don't read on..

As I sat in Religion class with nothing to do, I started to think about it. Why do people set so much store by religions? Why is it such as big part of people's daily lives? When somebody jumps out at you from behind, you yell "Jesus you scared me!" or when the missing three year old is found, people can be heard Thank the lord!-ing.

I've been atheist for some time. I remember when I was 7/8, standing at the sink one night, toothbrush in mouth and thinking about how it makes no sense. Each and every day, there's news of poverty and death and destruction. Now, surely God wouldn't allow that to happen to the world he created.

Why does God allow people to be born with defects? How come people are born autistic, with only one ear or with Cerebral Palsy? I mean, they say life is hard, but these things don't exactly make it easier!

I think that part of my atheism stems from just that. If God existed, why was I born with CP? Why impart the burden? Pro-Catholics would argue that conception doesn't have anything to do with God, but humans supposedly came from God, so why couldn't he fix something?

Now, we've all heard the radio ads, we've seen the ads. Smoking and drinking alcohol are big no-no's when it comes to pregnancy, as it can cause complications in the baby. Pro-catholics could talk about this and how God has no control over this. But we come back to the fact that God created the world. At first, there was nothing. On which of the 7 days did germs and bad things come into play?

I feel that if God exists, he's given me and millions of others a large kick in the teeth.
